General introduction
Wuhan Iron and Steel Group Company, established in 1955 and put into operation on September 13, 1958, is the first super-large iron and steel conglomerate built after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. As a state-owned enterprise directly managed by the Central Government and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council, it holds a significant position in China’s industrial sector.
The plant is strategically located in the eastern suburbs of Wuhan, Hubei Province, on the south bank of the Yangtze River, covering an area of 21.17 square kilometers. It is a comprehensive industrial site with operations in mountain mining, coking, iron production, steel manufacturing, steel rolling, and logistics. The facility is equipped with advanced steel production technology and supporting auxiliary facilities.
Following the joint reorganization of Ezhou Steel, Liuzhou Steel, and Kungang, the company has grown into a major enterprise group, with a total production scale of nearly 40 million tons of steel. It is now ranked as the fourth largest steel producer in the world, marking its global prominence in the steel industry.
