Absorption Heat Pump

Absorption Heat Pump

Compared to electric or air-cooled heat pumps, the LiBr absorption heat pump is a heat-powered system that recycles and transfers low-temperature (LT) waste heat to high-temperature (HT) heat sources. This process is used for applications such as process heating, district heating, city heating, and industrial heating.

Absorption heat pumps can be classified into two categories, depending on the circulation method and operational status:

  • Class I: These devices are driven by high-grade heat sources, such as steam, high-temperature (HT) hot water, or natural gas, to recover heat from low-temperature (LT) heat sources, like waste hot water. They are typically used to produce hot water for district heating or industrial processes.
  • Class II: These heat pumps absorb heat from waste hot water to generate hot water at a higher temperature than the driven waste heat, without requiring additional heat sources. The key feature of this type is its ability to generate higher-temperature hot water from waste heat alone.

In essence, the absorption heat pump operates similarly to the absorption chiller. It consists of key components such as the generator, condenser, evaporator, absorber, heat exchanger, auto purge system, vacuum pump, solution pump, refrigerant pump, and electrical devices. It is widely applied in district heating, central heating, and city heating systems.
